November 2010
Harndec completed flooring installation works worth £3.5 million, and made a successful hand-over of the 79,700m2 Forth Valley Royal Hospital project, spanning 4000 rooms, 25 wards and 16 operating theatres, in November 2010. A dedicated workforce of 48 operatives worked on this large scale project from April 09 ensuring that deadlines were met and the high standard of floor finish required was delivered in each area.
The new £300 million hospital, built on the western fringes of Larbert, is Scotland’s largest NHS construction project and will replace Falkirk and Stirling Infirmaries providing services for a population of over 280,000. The acute hospital has already opened its doors to its first patients, with the transfer of services expected to finish in Summer 2011. Operations within the facility include Scotland’s first fully robotic pharmacy system, where drugs will be sorted, labelled and dispensed robotically, and the UK’s first robotic supply and delivery system, these robots will have their own dedicated network of corridors underneath the hospital with separate fleets for clean or dirty tasks such as disposing of clinical waste or bringing clean linen to patients. The robots have designated lifts for each task meaning that there is reduced risk of infection as the robots will never cross.
Harndec are proud to have been involved in such a revolutionary healthcare project where they were able, once again to demonstrate their ability to handle large scale, high pressure projects.
